The UK has pubs, the United States have sports bars, but neither are anything like the brown cafe "bruine kroeg" in The Netherlands. What they all have in common is that they provide community over a cold beer or cocktail. The Dutch song "het kleine cafe aan de haven" explains it best: "There in that little cafe by the harbor. There the people are equal and content, and your money or who you are is unimportant."
